At IRUKA Africa Foundation, we believe that sustainable change requires more than passion. It requires evidence, strategy, advocacy, and the courage to influence systems.

As an Africa-focused, girl-centered, and youth-led organization, our work is rooted in the realities of girls and young people across the continent. We understand that many of the challenges affecting African girls are not isolated issues. They are connected to education systems, protection structures, economic inequality, harmful social norms, limited civic participation, and policy gaps that must be addressed with urgency and clarity.

This is why policy and research remain central to IRUKA’s next phase of growth.

Through our policy brief work, IRUKA is strengthening its role as a credible African voice on issues affecting girls, women, and young people. Our policy briefs are designed to move conversations from awareness to action. They provide insight, identify challenges, and present practical recommendations that can guide stakeholders, institutions, development actors, and community leaders.

Our policy work focuses on the areas that matter deeply to IRUKA’s mission: girls’ education, gender justice and protection, youth leadership, civic participation, inclusion, and systems change. These are not abstract development themes. They are urgent priorities that shape whether girls can remain in school, live free from violence, access dignity, participate in leadership, and contribute meaningfully to society.

For IRUKA, research is not just documentation. It is a tool for advocacy. It allows us to listen better, understand deeper, and speak with more clarity when engaging communities, partners, policymakers, and development institutions.

As we grow, our commitment is to ensure that the voices and lived experiences of girls and young people are reflected in the recommendations we put forward. We believe policy should not be distant from the people it is meant to serve. It should be informed by community realities, youth perspectives, and the urgent need for more inclusive systems.

The launch and development of IRUKA’s policy brief work represents an important step in our institutional growth. It reflects our transition from only implementing projects to also shaping conversations, influencing decisions, and contributing to long-term change across Africa.
